Hey alumni

Details of this friday's performance..

Reporting time is at 3pm Sharp at Suntec Convention Centre, level 2. Jonathan will take you all in together to the holding room to set up your instruments and get ready for the rehearsal at 3.15. Please do not be late cause it will disrup the flow of rehearsals with the other groups..

Should you want to go there early, there is a bus leaving Hai Sing at 12pm for the main band.
We have also charted another bus to take the alumni on a return trip back to Hai Sing after the performance. Tentitive 10pm.

Concert Attire is all black as mentioned
ladies, black blouse with sleeves and tailored pants or knee length skirts. Court shoes or coverd heeled shoes.
Guys, black shirt and pants and tie(blue tieswill be issued out on friday itself). Black leather shoes and black socks please.

Please do alias with the main band sectional leader to ensure that they bring all the necessary items for you and your section. Instruments, stands, scores.

Final Practice...

Hi Alumni

thank you all for being around on sat for our first combined practice with the main band. I think the practice was pretty alright for the first round. My apologies for the lack of prep and getting all the scores ready. I've already feedback the librarian about it. Hopefully the next practice will be a lot more less messy and more organised.

Do take note, the next practice; also the final practice is Compulsory. So all have to be there.
Saturday, 8.45am in the bandroom.

As of now, there is not info about the reporting time on the actual day. But there will be a sound check in the afternoon. there will be buses to pick the alumni and main band from the school to Suntec. You are encouraged to follow the bus so that we have everyone arrive together. Please do make arrangements if possible to have your afternoon free on the 20th of NOV. I will post up more info about reporting time soon.

Thank you all who came down for practice on saturday. I think it was a good practice and we managed to read through all the music and even try some other pieces.

C. ATTENDANCE
Attendance for the following practices is compulsory for everyone playing for this gala performance. A direction set by the band teachers, Those who cannot commit to the next few practices will not be allowed to play. So we seek your coorperation and be present for the pracs.

Alumni who wish who still wish to play with us for the gala performance must confirm with us by this friday(06/11). We wont be able to allow anymore after this date due to the number of practices left and also avalible instruments left to use.

D. NEXT PRACTICE
The next scheduled practice is this coming saturday, 7th Nov(sat), 8.45am-12.30pm. Settle down by 8.45am. attendance will be taken for alumni. Please do be punctual. The band room will be opened from 8am.
This is a combined practice with the main band and Mrs Chua will be there for the rehearsal. This practice is compulsory. If you cant make it, please do notify us.
ATTIRE: Please be properly dressed as mentioned on sat during our practices as part of the school's guidelines. No slippers is allowed(min sandels).

The band room is also open every tuesday and thursday for the main band practice 3-5.30pm should you wish to join in the practice or have your own individula practice. Do be mindful that the 'O'Levels is still going on during the weekdays.

Hey Alumni Band

Please take note that the first practice for Alumni Band is this Saturday 31st Oct @ 8.45am-12.30pm. Please do be punctual as we have quite a number of administrative things to settle, eg, handing out instruments, scores. and of cause not to mention, to start practicing for the performance. some of the main band committee memebers will be coming down early to assist us with the handing out of instruments and accessories so do be on time.

There will be a school function during the time of our practices, so do be in decent attire and do cooperate with the security guard if he needs to request for your identification and to check if your name is in the list with the guard. Should your name not be there, just write it down so that they can have your particulars as reference. The guard is aware of the alumni band's practice.

Practice schedule- gala dinner

Dear Alumni Band

Update:

The following practices are Scheduled for alumni to attend for the upcoming gala dinner.

Sat: 31st Oct -- 8.45am-12.30pm
Sat: 7th Nov -- 8.45am-12.30pm
Sat: 14t Nov -- 8.45am-12.30pm

Please take note that the 7th & 14th of Nov are practices combined with the main band. All 3 practices are compulsory. Its important we come down for for all pracs so we are furnished and able to help play and also support the full band well.
If u want to have more pracs, u are welcome to join in the main band practices on the weekdays.
Their Practices are every tuesday and thursday 3-6pm.

ALUMNI GALA DINNER...

Hey Dear HSC Alumni Band!

Yet another alumni project up!

As you guys know Hai Sing is going to have her Alumni Gala Dinner in November celebrating the school's 50th anniversary. The alumni is invited to do a combine performance with the current main band.
The School Alumni, Alumni Band Committee, Band teachers and Mrs Chua would love to have you all to come play for this event.

DETAILS:

-20th Nov 2009 (Friday)
-6.30pm - 11pm [event run]
-Suntec Singapore International Convention Ballroom

The Combined Band will likely be putting up a performance of about 30-40mins. Music programme has yet to be confirmed with Mrs Chua. We will suggest to play a couple of pieces of our choice too.

Alright! So we need you guys to let us know if you can play alright?

We would require at least 3 Sat practices days prior to the Dinner
DATES: 31st Oct, 7th Nov, 14th Nov (dates are a minimum we need you to attend, in which 2 will be combined with the main band)
20th Nov- The performance will be in the evening, but likely a sound check in the the mid afternoon, so we may require you to be available on the friday afternoon.(onli on vaild grounds if u cant come earlier k)

INTRUMENTATION: the performance is open to every alumni band member. There is currently no maximum to the number of players in each section. So dont worry if your section is too big, instrumentation can be arranged during practice. We just want you to play with us!
The Main Band is not going to put in all their players for this performance cause they want to include as many alumni members as possible.
Thus, we are targeting a minimum of 20-30 alumni to play.

k, so it would be good if you could give me your replies if you can play by the 27th of Sept(next Fri). I know its a short time to consider, but we would need a rough guage of the number of players so that we can get good instruments for you.and need to borrow from other schools if need be.

Follow up to appeal for a concert...

this is a follow up to the last post about the proposal of having an alumni concert..
We thank those who have responded promptly.

The dateline to repond was given till today, 16th april. However, we realised that not everyone got the message to read the appeal. So we will extend this dateline by another week to 24th April( next friday). Please do get all alumni to read it. even if you are inactive in band/alumni band.

Proposal!-- IMPT!

Hey alumni,

Thank you all for your continuous support to the school, main band and the the alumni band.
Mdm Zaibon has asked us to convey her sincere thanks for all who played for the Carnival.
We personally think it was a good start for the alumni band again; performing together.

In addition, We have PROPOSED to ask the school to let us have an Alumni Band Concert. Yes! OUR VERY OWN ALUMNI BAND CONCERT.

However, this is a proposed plan only. we need some feedback from you alumni first so that the alumni band administrative group can go ahead and approach the school to let us have a concert.

Thus, this being the first time we are going to endevour doing this, there are some implications to having a concert for the first time.

1. We(alumni band) will not seek for a big performance venue and settle for the current school hall. However, should the school support to using a concert hall then that would be better.
2. To get a better chance of holding a concert, We are proposing to tie up with this year's 50th anniversary. Thus, the alumni band concert will be a charity concert. For the school, we will sell tickets (price yet to be settled. est:$5) and the money will be donated to the school's charity fund.
3. We will accept and understand that there may not be any financial support from the school. In such cases, we will work out a best lowest budget for us.

Now, we need some feedback from you people on the following criteria:

1. We will propose for a concert begining of November 2009.either the 1st or 2nd week of that month. this date is roughly set so that it does not clash with the University and Polytechnic exams. I'm sorry for those A level students affected by this period. No current O level and N Level members(still in the school) will play for this concert. This is also a confortable date for the school's activity plan as it will be just after the O levels.

2. Since this will be a self reliant project. We need full resources for instrumentation; players. The minimum number of players set is 50-60 musicians. and this includes full individual section
(pls take note that the below eg. is just a minimum guage and that there is no maximum quota now)

3. We will request for practices 3 months before the concert. That means from Mid August to Begining November. Practice times will depend but likely a saturday morning, Unless we can find a better day/time slot for us. Thus, due to to short practice schedule period, we would also want to have conductive practice sessions. musicians would need to have at least 70% of practice attendance.

4. As mentioned, we will tie in this proposed concert with the 50th annivesary. Thus, we have decided on a suitable theme "down memory lane". we will be using CONCERT music which we have played over the many years in our reportoire. Choice of reportoire will be decided later.

Now we need u to reply with ur feedback.

Please tell us what you think about this PROPOSED project and if u are interested to play in it too(considering the criteria abv). I know it is way early to know some of our schedules for that period of time and commit to practices and the concert. But just give a rough certain reply if you think u are likely able to or not. so we can account to officially go ahead with the proposal; we do not want to have a concert with no players!

Carnival

Hey alumni!

Thank you all for playing/supporting at the carnival. I really do hope u had fun too. We would really like to thank your effort to put up a performance in such a short practice-duration period.

I really hope that this is one of the very few events for alumni band and we will work more together for other projects.

a few updates: The main band's syf is on 3rd April. They are the first band after lunch on that friday. Do go support if u want.SYF enterance is based on a ticket entry system which is issued on a morning and afternoon session. please be informed that there are always limited tickets at the door so people will queue up earli for them before that session. For Hai Sing's the line will start just after the last band in the morning session. Should the tickets run out, admission is only be allowed if there is extra seats on the upper deck-corners; giving priority to ticket and pass holders.

Attire is Black polo t shirt, Blue jeans and covered shoes.

Please take note that reporting time is 10.15am and everyone is to be settled down BY 10.30am instead of 11am. I'm sorry to set the time earlier as there would be a lot of administrative/logistical things to do that day. Thus i really need your coorperation to PLEASE be on time. We have to start our performance at 12pm and we do not want to tire you all out before playing. So do report punctually.

Reporting Venue is at the DANCE ROOM. Located at the new block, 1st floor. It is the room on the extreme right; facing the field.

As mentioned before, dateline for confirming instruments and accessories is over and no more requests can be entertained. This is because the main band has to shift to another location in lieu of the carnival prep in the basement. and from thursday, we have no access to the band room anymore.

Thank you all for being early today. Good job on the effort. Practice was rushed but we still managed to get what we wanted to do.
Things to take note (this is a long one!):

HAI SING CARNIVAL '09
28th March 09
Reporting time is at 11am. Venue to report is still pending. As mentioned we wont be reporting in the band room because the basement is being used for the Carnival. The Main Band will be helping us keep the instruments in one of the rooms upstairs.
Attire is strictly Black Polo T shirt, Blue Jeans and Covered Shoes. No exceptions k. Lets be properly dressed when we perform.

Last Practice

Hi alumni

Thanks to all who came down on Sat for rehearsal. I think we did a pretty good job at the sound test at the foyer. Lets Play well for the carnival yea.

Some things to take note of.

Next practice(LAST PRACTICE) is on SAT 21st march. 9am-11.30am.. Please take note of the change on practice time. This is because the main band is having an exchange at YuHua that afternoon, so we need to hand over the instruments to them. That means, i need all of you to report at 9am SHARP! for once, i would appeal to all of u to please please be on time so we can run through the music for the last time b4 we play for the carnival. we want to start full band promptly.

Our performance time on the 28th is at 12.15pm with an estimate of 30-45mins worth of music.
Attrie for the carnival is Black Polo T-shirts, Blue Jeans, and covered footwear. (no explicit contents on tshirt, sandels, slippers are allowed). lets we presentable when we perform too.

We will inform u guys about the reporting time soon. In Addition, all are invited to enjoy the carnival before the performance. They start at 9am. Lunch is provided for the alumni Players who have given your personal details.

Hey Alumni

Just a gentle reminder that we have 2 more practices till the carnival. It is important you come down for these final couple of practices too.

Tomorrow's Practice starts at 9am-12.30pm. Please be on time because we will be doing a run through at the foyer tomorrow. Next Sat's Practice (21st March) will also be very important coz alumni prac will have to end before 12pm as the main band will be going out for exchange and will need to use the instruments. 2 more practices

Hi alumni

Thank you to those who came down for practice on saturday.

Please take note that we only have 2 more rehearsals left till the actual performance. I really do hope to see the full band these coming 2 practices as we really need to get the band to practice together. We may be playing in just a carnival, but we also want to put up a good performance to show that the alumni band is worth being credited yeah.
So please do come down for practice these 2 saturdays.

Rehearsal 1- 14 March:
We will be doing a run through at our performance venue at the foyer so that we can hear how we sound like up there. Please do be punctual for the practice so we can have the full instrumentation there.

Rehearsal 2- 21 March:
Our final rehearsal. I would appeal to all to be there on time as well becoz we have to hand over out instrument early to the main band as they will be having an exchange programme at YuHua that afternoon. so our practice time is limited to a short morning practice. You are also welcome to go for the YuHua exchange.

Actual performance- 28 march
We wil be playing at the Foyer from 12.15pm-12.45pm. Attire as discussed is black polo-t shirts and blue jeans with proper footware(best in shoes).

FYI: The Main band's SYF is on the 3rd April, first band after Lunch. SO if u want to go support.

Carnival

Hi Alumni
Thanks to all who came down for Sat practice. Attendance was a lot better. =]
A few things to take note of:

1. Carnival issues
- For those who have not confirmed whether you will be playing with us for the carnival, please do let us know by the 15th of March. This is requested by the school coz' they are preparing food for us. However, if you decide to join us after that, you wont be entitled to the prepared food.

-The performance venue is at the porch-(foyer).

-There are 3 practices left till the performance. I do hope that those who have commited to play for the carnival, please do make arrangements and come down for these practices. The music pieces are not tough but we do want to put up a decent performance anyhow. We also need time to get the alumni band to practice together.
As mentioned during the last practice, please be punctual for the coming practices as sectional time will be reduced so that there is more time to have full band.

-There is still a shortage of players in some sections.

We would like to appeal to those from these sections to play for the carnival if you are free.

- We have decided to remove the song 'Eine Kleine- Mozart' from our performance.

Thanks once again to those who came down for alumni band today. The turn out was much much better, but still not as good.
I hope everyone else will be down for next week's practice. Please do make prior arrangements for your saturday mornings if you have committed to the practices for these few weeks.

A couple of thinngs to take note of:

1. please do vote on the poll of your choice- whether we should make an alumni t shirt on the blog. It will be there till end of next week.

2. We are still short of confirmed players for some sections. this is currently the number for each section.

Thank you to those who made time to come down today for our first alumni band practice. For those who didn't, its ok. Please do come for all subsequent practices ok?

Thank you all for your prompt replies for the Carnival performance. We have thus managed to confirm the alumni band to perform for the carnival on the 28th of March.

Our band practice will offically start this sat, 14th Feb. and carry on every subsequent saturdays.

An appeal to HSC Alumni Band

Hey HSC Alumni Band

This is an urgent request/appeal from Mdm Zaibon to us.

Hai Sing is celebrating her 50th anniversary this year. As part of the celebration's events, they are having a Carnival in the school on the 28th March (SAT). Being a school event, all CCAs including performing arts;(band) is required to be involved. However this year being a SYF year for Concert Bands, the Carnival is mid-smack during the competition period. Mdm Zaibon has has personally appealed if we could help the current main band out in this favour by playing for the carnival. She does not wish to distract them in this important time.
The band is asked to play approx. 30-45mins worth of performance pieces(fun, light hearted music).

In addition, she also wishes to see more of our Alumni come back to give support to the band like before; being an active alumni band in Hai Sing. Also, hoping that this event will also showcase the alumni band to the school.

We would hope you all could come back to help out in this event. Please let us know if you can come to play for the Carnival.
Band practices will be every Saturday (about 6 satrday practices) morning 9am-12pm in the bandroom. mimum to commitment is 50% which is 3 practices; best in the 3 practice sessions in March.

Please let ManNing (hp:97879591) or Jonathan (hp:94789401) know by THIS WEEKEND if u can make so that we can offically arrange for our first band practice. I'm sorry for the rush as it will take some time to arrange with the school management in arranging for the practice sessions. Do spread this info around to your batch-mates and alumni bandsmen.

Hello everyone!

Mrs Chua is finding people who are interested to perform for Soka at Tampines (it's the same as the previous performance at Soka for those who joined the ad hoc winds).

Information given by Mrs Chua:

Date: 13 Sep 2008, Sat (around 8pm)
Practice on 4 Sep (Thu) at around 8pm
Rehearsal on 13 Sep (Sat) at around 6pm, actual performance starts at around 8pm
Playing around 2 pieces. (most likely sight-readable)

I will update you when Mrs Chua updates me with new details (practice and rehearsal timings are tentative).

Anyone who's interested can join! It would be good if you can find your own instrument, but if you don't have, pls tell us so we can inform Mrs Chua and see what she can do. If you're interested to play, pls reply to hscaband@gmail.com! =)

I have contacted Mdm Zaibon but she is unable to confirm the concert date as Mr Raj has not replied her. She said she will update me when she has fixed the concert date. Practice will resume once the concert date is fixed.

Hello people!

Alumni band practices will stop for the time being until the concert date is fixed. This is because we notice that fewer and fewer people are coming for practices and it is difficult for us to carry on without enough players. Hence, when the concert date is fixed, we can all then confirm if we want and if we are free to play, and that is when we can confirm the number of players and continue with practices too.

We know that all of us have put in a lot of effort in preparing for this concert but we are met with problems like concert dates being changed and practices being cancelled at the last minute. We are very sorry about it and we hope that you will not be discouraged from coming for future alumni band practices! Please continue to support the alumni band =)

According to Mdm Zaibon, Mr Raj has just returned from his surgery so she hopes that we can give them some time to fix the concert date. Sorry for the inconvenience caused, and thank you for your understanding!

Hi all!

Alumni band practice will resume this Saturday, 29 March, from 9am-1pm.

I will need to know the number of instruments each section requires because of a new procedure being implemented in the main band. Let me explain the situation:

Mdm Zaibon realised that many instruments are being sent for repairs, so maintenance costs are getting high.
Mrs Chua and Mdm Zaibon have agreed to assign an instrument to each main band player. Each player is accountable for his/her own instrument. If the instrument is spoilt due to the player's negligence, he/she has to pay for the repairs.
In order to be fair to everyone using the instruments, alumni members are required to sign in and out for an instrument too.
This is also to prevent any misunderstanding between main band members and alumni members if the instrument is being shared and it got spoilt.
Important: Alumni members will have to check the instrument (in case it is already spoilt) before and after using it.

Mdm Zaibon will be down for alumni practice this Saturday and she'll explain the situation further. The assignment of instruments will be carried out this Saturday.

***SECTION LEADERS: Pls help to collate the names of your section's players who will be joining the concert and get back to me by Wed (26 March) night LATEST, as i have to submit the namelist to Mdm Zaibon on Thursday (27 March).

Concert details & Practice dates

1. Concert details

Mdm Zaibon had discussed with Mrs Chua regarding the concert date. It will most probably be a school-based concert held in end June.
(This will need confirmation from Mr Raj and we will update you once Mdm Zaibon fixes the date.)

2. Alumni practice

Practice will only resume on 29 March because there will be some work done in the band room.
Practices will be held on a fortnightly basis from March to April.
Practice will stop during the first 2 weeks of May due to school mid-year exams.
Practice will only resume after exams. Practices will be held on a weekly basis (will need to confirm again when the date nears).

Sorry for the many changes for this concert! We are really sorry for any inconvenience caused. We will try our best to update you with the details of the concert as soon as possible.

Alumni Band Practice (19 Jan)

Hi everyone!

There will be band practice tomorrow, 19 Jan (Sat), from 9am - 1pm.

Regarding last Saturday, we are sorry that the room was not available for practice again. Let us explain the situation:

There was miscommunication between the band teachers, office admin staff and the Principal.
According to the instructions the admin staff received, she cannot let the alumni draw the keys because there must be a teacher around.

For NOW:

Mdm Zaibon had arranged for the band teachers to come back on our practices and draw and return the keys for us.
The band teachers will stay for the entire duration of our practices.

We are sorry to those who came back early in the morning and had to leave.

For tomorrow's practice, Mdm Zaibon will be coming down to draw the keys for us. Pls do come down for practice if you can! Do get fellow band alumni to come down for practice too! Thanks a lot!

Practice 5 Jan Cancelled

First of all, sorry for any inconvenience caused for cancelling the practice at the last minute. As we weren’t able to contact Mdm Zaibon since yesterday night to confirm the practice, we didn’t want to risk with carrying on with the practice.

Let us explain the situation.

On our part we happily take it for granted that Mdm Zaibon will remember to inform the School about the alumni for 2008. However, we suddenly realized we haven’t been confirming with Mdm Zaibon for the month( we have the habit of re-confirming the practices date for the month at the start of that particular month). Hence, we’re afraid that she might not have informed the school. We could have carried on with the practice, but what if we arrived at the school and found out that we have no access to the band room (OMG~). Yalor, so, we decided that the practice be cancelled than be stopped by the Dear security David (ops!).

Really very sorry! (To Hwee Lee, she was actually on her way down when she received the message. And also Jonathan Wing Yi Marilyn who also were already there SORRY! We really feel very bad)

Oh yes. The next thing is, Mrs Chua picked some new songs for us to play! So, the next practice we’ll be doing them! Yay! We promise it’s no more Hello Dolly kind of genre. Heh.

As the concert date will be pushed back, we’ll have a bit more time to learn these songs!
About the concert date which all of us are very concern, actually Mrs Chua has yet to confirm as she is current unable to go back to Hai Sing (some admin-cum-a-lot-of-paper-work-kind of problem la). Well, then everything is cleared and she returns back, everything will be settled.

Yup, so meanwhile we just carry on practicing!

Need HELP from Alumni

Hi guys!

There is some problem such that Mr and Mrs Chua cannot go down to Hai Sing for practice, so Mrs Chua hope that the alumni can go down and help the juniors with sectionals. Practices should be from around 4pm-6pm. I am not sure about the sec 1 orientation yet, so I'll ask Mdm Zaibon and update everyone again.

2 Jan (Wed) -- Practice (prepare for Sec 1 Orientation on Thu)
3 Jan (Thu) -- Sec 1 Orientation + Practice after orientation

There will be a primary school band competition this year, and as usual there will be a set piece. Hai Sing is selected to be the demo band. The composer will be going down on 10 Jan (Thu). Mrs Chua will collect the set piece on Thursday and pass it to Hai Sing so that they can practise. Mrs Chua also want us to record the band so that she can hear the band, and make suggestions for improvements.

Hello All,

Due to some issues (which we have no idea actually), Mdm Zaibon would like to ask the alumni band for a favour. On the 26th Dec (Wed) and 28th Dec (Fri), time 9am-12pm for both days. She would appreciate that alumni members can go down for band to help each individual section on their sectionals.

Mrs Chua would not be around hence, she hopes that the alumni can help supervise and guide the juniors.

Yup. If you happen to be free and can go down to help, (any of the 2 days), do inform us so the section can expect you!

Well, it can be a good chance to spend the Boxing day with your juniors or even arrange a section outing. Heh.

Due to the sudden change in plan in the main band's schedule, the main band will be going to Japan for an exchange, thus our concert will be held on the 1st of Dec 2007 instead.

This date is confirmed by the school as previously we proposed 28/29th dec and we were given 1st as a choice. Unfortunately, the school cannot accommodate to us.This may results in some of us unable to perform as it happens to fall on the examination week for most of us. Thus, now we declare an emergency.

We will definitely go on with the plan is everyone is okay with 1st, as those having examinations may only be the handful of us.

Please check your email and give us a "YES/NO" answer by Monday 2359 8 Oct 2007.
What you should do now is to check your email, give your SL a YES/NO answer and we will collate and present u guys the statistic on the availability of players for the various dates.

If,

Most of us choose 1st Dec 2007, and the number of player is substantial, we will carry on and prepare the concert for that day.
Most of us choose 28/29 Dec 2007, and the number of player is substantial, we will need to present the statistic to the school and request [again] for the change of date. However, if the school still cannot accomodate our request, we will, unfortunately, withdraw from this Concert officially.

Hi all, today was the 5th Practice for Alumni band.

The attendance was rather disappointing- 13 people turned up. Somehow, for a band to be setup, to hold a concert, collective effort is very important. We hope most people understand. It may be the exams week but like what we previously agreed, do inform us if you cannot come, thus we can actually change the practice date and not cause any unnecessary arrangement.

Nonetheless, it is very heart-warming to see the 13 members who still made their way down in the morning!

We did not proceed with the practice as the number of people was too small. Apologies to those who came, but your effort is deeply appreciated.

regarding clashes with ALL practices

We understand that some alumni are unable to attend all the Saturday practices as they clash with school or other stuff. We're trying to think of other possible arrangements so that all seniors who want to play for the concert will have time to practise.
We'll need to discuss this with Mdm Zaibon. We'll try our best and update you guys asap. =)

Commencement of Alumni Band Practice 2007

Finally! This coming saturday 18th Aug is our long awaited alumni band practice 2007!
Below are some details to note:

Practice starts at 9am. Try to come at 8.45am to prepare
If the security guard stop you, just tell him "I'M FROM THE BAND"
We have to leave the bandroom at 12.45pm. At 1pm, the alarm will sound -_-!
The school advise us to dress appropriately. Haha, maybe they are worried that we might forget to wear one side of our shoe. Ok la, what they mean is not to be too "lor-kor"(untidy).

We have already taken note of some players who are unable to come this saturday. Yup, so if you miss this saturday remember to check your emails, check this blog or maybe you can also ask your fellow section mates to see if there's any new updates!

We do not have everyone's contact so it's quite difficult for us to spread the message, so we appreciate if all of us can inform one another! Viva Musica VI - Practice Details

Schedule

In the month of November, which most of us may be having exams, the dates are not yet confirmed. We would appreciate if can tell us your exams dates, so we can TRY OUR BEST to avoid those dates. Also, if you can’t make it for any practice, just email us or simply contact Kai Ling or Jie Ying 1-2 weeks in advance. Yup, so if it happens that a bulk of us can’t make it on a particular date, we can shift it to another Saturday or make some other arrangements.

Repertoire

Our performing time is 15-20mins.
However, this excludes the combine pieces which Mrs. Chua invited the alumni to play together. They are:

Dancing in the Wind
Can’t take my Eyes off you (@_@!)

We will choose the other songs from a list Mrs. Chua recommended us when we meet!

Communication

Since, more or less the people who are playing for the concert has given us their email or contact please try to check your emails frequently so you can know any latest update immediately!

We do welcome more alumni to join us, however, try not to give last min notices .Heh, ‘cos a confirm name list will have to be submitted and printed on the programme booklet mah... (Just join lah… Haha)

End Of Year Concert 2007

Hello all

Once again it’s CONCERT TIME! (Solely band concert. No more combine-with-school kind of plan) Well, things have been confirmed, so now is your reply! Details of the concert is as below.

Date: 07 Dec 2007
Venue: School Hall ( it will be a free concert. That's the best we can get already =()

Time: Evening (to be confirmed)
Performing Time: Depends on how many pieces we can come up with

So now, please try to make yourself available fort his concert and comfirm your participation with us!

You can:

Inform your seniors, sectional leader. (they will comfirm with us)
Inform us directly.
Discuss with your section mates, bandsmate then inform us all together.

It’s all right if you inform your sectional leaders, then come to us again with your friends. It will still be the same information. (heh, hope it’s not confusing).

Most importantly, get as many khakis (ga-kis?) as possible!

Yup, try to get back to us by July, so we can commence our practice ASAP. (so can try more interesting pieces) . No worries if you are concern that you have already lost touch with your instrument, many of us also are no longer active. What matters is we try to gather than meet up! Aiyer, as long as we sound decent, it’s already a good start!

If not, it’s also a nice gathering!

Practice Update

Due to some unforeseen circumstances, this coming saturday 07 April 2007, Hai Sing band is having their band practice at Ngee Ann Secondary School.

Time: 9.00am-12.00pm
Venue: Ngee Ann Band Room

Mrs Chua hopes that the Alumni can go down to help them as this may be their last combine practice before SYF. (Again, due to unforeseen CIRCUMSTANCES, monday to wednesday they will not be able to hold any proper band practices).

Wet, wet ,wet

that would be the three words I would use to describe the BBQ.

Despite the rain , many braved the elements to attend the year-end Alumni BBQ at Mr, and Mrs. Chua's house. Even more amazingly, we also proceeded to have a BBQ in spite of the mood-dampening drizzle. We largely have the big picnic umbrellas to thank for sheltering our BBQ pit which produced a tantalising array of food such as BBQ chicken wings (which is among the best I've tasted) and what I assumed to be Black pepper Dory fish. I later found that the "black" pepper was actually some herbs. It was very good though.

Because I came a little late, the wings were mostly gone. I think this might be the first time I've seen chicken wings finishing in a BBQ! Hot chicken wings on a cold day is about the best combination for comfort food.

After stealing some chicken wings from other people, I went to have at go at the BBQ pit. That way, I can also eat on the pre-text of sampling the food( which at most times is true.)

Since I had my camera, a few pictures were also snapped. Some people were not very cooperative though. Hehe.

Some O-taks and alot of hotdogs later, we decided to call it a night. Utensils were kept, flames doused and rubbish disposed of.

For $5 I thought it was quite worth it. It would have been better if it hadn't rained though. Anyhow, a big thank you to the Shopping committee and the organisers for a great BBQ!Special thanks also goes out to Mr and Mrs. Chua for offering and helping us book the BBQ pits.
