Hi everyone!

There will be band practice tomorrow, 19 Jan (Sat), from 9am - 1pm.

Regarding last Saturday, we are sorry that the room was not available for practice again. Let us explain the situation:

  • There was miscommunication between the band teachers, office admin staff and the Principal.
  • According to the instructions the admin staff received, she cannot let the alumni draw the keys because there must be a teacher around.

For NOW:

  • Mdm Zaibon had arranged for the band teachers to come back on our practices and draw and return the keys for us.
  • The band teachers will stay for the entire duration of our practices.

We are sorry to those who came back early in the morning and had to leave.

For tomorrow's practice, Mdm Zaibon will be coming down to draw the keys for us. Pls do come down for practice if you can! Do get fellow band alumni to come down for practice too! Thanks a lot!

Practice Schedule:

19 Jan 2008

9.00am

Pieces to be done:

combined piece:
1. Glasnost
2. Amazing Grace

0900 - 1100 : Sectionals

First of all, sorry for any inconvenience caused for cancelling the practice at the last minute. As we weren’t able to contact Mdm Zaibon since yesterday night to confirm the practice, we didn’t want to risk with carrying on with the practice.

Let us explain the situation.

On our part we happily take it for granted that Mdm Zaibon will remember to inform the School about the alumni for 2008. However, we suddenly realized we haven’t been confirming with Mdm Zaibon for the month( we have the habit of re-confirming the practices date for the month at the start of that particular month). Hence, we’re afraid that she might not have informed the school. We could have carried on with the practice, but what if we arrived at the school and found out that we have no access to the band room (OMG~). Yalor, so, we decided that the practice be cancelled than be stopped by the Dear security David (ops!).

Really very sorry! (To Hwee Lee, she was actually on her way down when she received the message. And also Jonathan Wing Yi Marilyn who also were already there SORRY! We really feel very bad)

Oh yes. The next thing is, Mrs Chua picked some new songs for us to play! So, the next practice we’ll be doing them! Yay! We promise it’s no more Hello Dolly kind of genre. Heh.

New Songs:
· Glasnost
· Amazing Grace
· Disney Songs
(it’s a compilation. Don’t worry not Disney spectacular kind, haha!)

As the concert date will be pushed back, we’ll have a bit more time to learn these songs!
About the concert date which all of us are very concern, actually Mrs Chua has yet to confirm as she is current unable to go back to Hai Sing (some admin-cum-a-lot-of-paper-work-kind of problem la). Well, then everything is cleared and she returns back, everything will be settled.

Yup, so meanwhile we just carry on practicing!

Yep, once again sorry for the late notice.
There won’t be a second time! Or else we treat the entire band =x!

So the next practice:

Date: 12 Jan 2008
Time: 9.00am
Venue: Band Room

Below is the schedule for January. (remember, we confirm with the school monthly, so yup)

12 Jan 2008- 9.00am
19 Jan 2008- 9.00am
26 Jan 2008- 9.00am
PS. Must come next week hor. Or else we really feel super bad *CRY* Come okokokok? love ya!

Hi guys!

There is some problem such that Mr and Mrs Chua cannot go down to Hai Sing for practice, so Mrs Chua hope that the alumni can go down and help the juniors with sectionals. Practices should be from around 4pm-6pm. I am not sure about the sec 1 orientation yet, so I'll ask Mdm Zaibon and update everyone again.

2 Jan (Wed) -- Practice (prepare for Sec 1 Orientation on Thu)
3 Jan (Thu) -- Sec 1 Orientation + Practice after orientation

There will be a primary school band competition this year, and as usual there will be a set piece. Hai Sing is selected to be the demo band. The composer will be going down on 10 Jan (Thu). Mrs Chua will collect the set piece on Thursday and pass it to Hai Sing so that they can practise. Mrs Chua also want us to record the band so that she can hear the band, and make suggestions for improvements.

7 Jan (Mon) -- Practice (Set piece)
8 Jan (Tue) -- Practice (Set piece)
10 Jan (Thu) -- Composer coming down to rehearse
11 Jan (Fri) -- Demo band

So Alumni, pls come down and help out with sectionals if you are free! Mrs Chua hopes that the alumni can help the juniors musically and monitor the sectionals. The demo band project for Hai Sing is a very important one, so do come down and help if you can. We really hope that at least one senior from every section can go down and help the juniors.

Pls reply asap if you can go, and pls help to pass this msg to your fellow section mates. Will continue to update everyone. Hope to see you guys!

Hai Sing Catholic Alumni Band
Welcome to the HSCAlumni Band webpage.

The Hai Sing Alumni Band has been actively involved in Hai Sing Catholic School. Since the formation of an extra-curricular activity(ECA) as a brass band in 1990 and then a wind band in 1995, the co-curricular activity has raised up many talented individuals who have made music their passion and carried on with it even as an alumni.

Alumni members of the HSC Band have always put in great support of her Alma Mater and the school’s Concert Band.

The HSC Alumni Band first took an active role since the school Concert Band’s first concert ‘A Christmas Story’ in 1999; the alumni and current students performing together. Thereafter, the Alumni Band was invited to play in a segment of future concerts such as the ‘Viva Musica' series (I, II, III, IV, and V).

The Alumni Band was invited to perform in the recent Hai Sing Carnival in March ’09. The 45min performance was a great success and brought a great experience to the school, alumni band and audience.

The Hai Sing Alumni Band will continue to be a support group to the school and school’s Concert Band. Under the umbrella of the Hai Sing Catholic Alumni and partnership of the HSC Concert Band, we hope to participate in many future school projects and even those hosted by the Concert Band and Alumni Band.
